New Zealand Certificate in Employment Advocacy (Level 5) · Reference 5675 · 60 credits
A new national qualification creates an exciting opportunity to turn employment expertise into practical learning. Through Employee Advisory, SLMD Learning is seeking an appropriately qualified employment-law and HR collaborator to explore programme development with a polytechnic or other tertiary provider.
We would welcome a partner who combines current New Zealand employment knowledge with adult-learning and facilitation experience: someone who can connect fair workplace processes, confident communication and sound professional judgement with the realities people face at work. Together, we could shape realistic scenarios, guided conversations and learning that people can use.
SLMD would contribute educational design, writing, interactive resources and digital learning experiences. A specialist partner would help shape and review subject content and explore facilitation, with responsibilities agreed alongside the education provider.
The qualification covers legal procedures, advocacy and professional communication, legal research, and alternative dispute resolution. The forthcoming book offers a related employee perspective; any use as learning material would need to be evaluated within programme development.
NZQA lists the qualification as current and, as at 20 October 2026, lists no organisations offering it. This proposal remains exploratory, subject to a provider partnership and the required programme approval and accreditation. Enrolments are not open through SLMD.

The project brings together his interest in employment law, writing and education. Publication timing and availability will be announced as the book develops.

Consultation focuses on education, document organisation and communication preparation. It is not a solicitor’s legal opinion or court representation. Where specialist legal advice or representation is required, that needs to be arranged with an appropriately qualified professional.
Enquire with a short outline of what you need. Scope, availability and fees are agreed before work begins.
